Today, there are apps for almost everything. They can make life easier, cheaper, safer and more fun. If you need help with notes, checking your knowledge, waking up on time or keeping in shape, then read on for our selection of apps for students…
Lecture recording
Just a few years ago, students had to scribble something down in their notebooks all the time, trying not to miss a single bit of useful information. But technology does not stand still, and now applications for saving lectures have become a reality. Yes, speeches of university teachers began to record a long time ago, but modern programs allow you to record and listen to them without spending a penny on expensive additional equipment.
SoundNote (iOS) is a popular among iPad owners application for recording lectures, which works in notepad and voice recorder mode. Thanks to it, the entire lesson can be saved in both audio and video versions. If you need to fix an image on the board, Office Lens allows you to take a picture of it, convert the file to PDF, Word or PowerPoint and send the data to OneNote or OneDrive for further work with them.
In addition to SoundNote, good lecture capture apps include Notes Plus (iOS) and Audio Memos Free – The Voice Recorder (iOS).
Repetition of material
Repetition apps are in huge demand today, and technology seems to have accomplished the impossible: making this activity fun.
If you’re a fan of flashcards, you should check out StudyBlue, an app for students that creates sets of cards using relevant information from your course. You can make reminders for self-checking as well.
Another useful app for repetition is GoConqr. It provides resources for generating test sheets, association cards, flashcards, notes, and questionnaires, as well as interacting and communicating with friends, classmates, or students from around the world. Alternatively, Exam Countdown (iOS) keeps a tally of the days remaining until each of your exams.
Exam preparation
Apps are available today for exams like the MCAT, LSAT, GMAT, and GRE, which are part of the admissions process at many universities. BenchPrep utilizes social media-like functionality that allows users to connect with other applicants and view materials to revisit with questionnaires, notes, and more. You can track your own learning progress in this app as well.
TCY Exam Prep (Android) is another exam preparation app aimed at Indian and American business students. It contains resources for MBA entrance tests, bank exams, CAT, GRE and GATE.
Planners
Organization is key to success and well-being in university, which is why planner apps are becoming increasingly popular. Many planners send reminders and notifications directly to your phone or other device.
Popular planners for students include Timetable (Android), which features a concise and clear interface into which you can easily transfer your timetable. If you’re looking for a more familiar option, check out apps with traditional spreadsheets, say Class Timetable.
Compiling a bibliography
If you’ve ever spent hours creating a lengthy bibliography, you know how much time it takes to make sure all the information you need is in the right place and in the right form. EasyBib is a very useful application for students that can create an academic reference to any book after scanning its barcode. Since bibliography design rules vary depending on where you study, EasyBib suggests using MLA, APA, and Chicago styles. Just scan the barcode or type in the title of the book, and voila, the reference is ready!
